Cardiff City FC Foundation teams up with Euro Commercials

10th September 2015

A charity linked to Cardiff City Football Club and dedicated to “Changing lives through sport and education” has made a three-pointed star signing in the shape of a fleet of 13 Mercedes-Benz vans.

Coaches from the Cardiff City Community & Education Foundation are now using their new vehicles to visit hundreds of schools and other community venues throughout South Wales.

Acquired with the help of a sponsorship contribution from Dealer Euro Commercials, the vans are all Citan 109 CDI Long models. The fuel-efficient Citan is the smallest vehicle in the Mercedes-Benz Vans range, and ideally suited to work in the urban areas in which much of the Foundation’s work takes place.

The Foundation is a registered charity aligned with, but independent of, Cardiff City FC. It employs a team of more than 30 qualified coaches who deliver innovative multi-sport activities and educational programmes with the aim of improving people’s lives, irrespective of their age, ability or gender.

Some 36,000 children, teenagers and adults benefit from the Foundation’s work each year, making it – according to UEFA – one of Europe’s largest sports participation programmes.

However, it aspires to reach many more, and Head of Business Development Ryan Jones says: “These smartly branded new vehicles can play an important role in helping us to achieve this goal, by raising our profile and providing credibility.

“The Citan is impressively well appointed, comfortable and easy to drive, as well as being perfectly sized to carry the balls and other equipment used by coaches to deliver our programmes.”

Powered by 90 hp engines, the Foundation’s new vans are the subject of a CharterWay contract hire agreement from Mercedes-Benz Financial Services, and will be maintained in the supplying Dealer’s workshop on Ipswich Road, Cardiff.

Ryan Jones continues: “We are grateful for Euro Commercials’ generous involvement in providing our delivery staff with an essential means of transport. 2015/16 is set to be a very busy year for all of us, with the Foundation set to have a positive impact on more people than ever before.”

Paul Cox, Van Sales Manager at Euro Commercials, says: “The Foundation has a proven track record of making communities healthier, more prosperous and better educated. It is an admirable enterprise of which the people of Cardiff can be proud, and well worthy of our support.”

The Citan is also available as a 75 hp 108 CDI, a 110 hp 111 CDI or a petrol-engined 114 hp Citan 112, and in Compact and Extra-long as well as Long body versions.
