Do you know the national van speed limits?

A staggering 80% of van drivers polled by fleet management company, Total Motion, were unaware of the different limits which apply to vans and commercial vehicles over 2 tonnes but not exceeding 7.5 tonnes:

• 50mph limit on single carriageways.
• 60mph limit on dual carriageways.

This lack of knowledge may not only be putting van drivers and other road users in danger, but is also not a legitimate legal excuse.

“Knowledge is most definitely the best solution.  It’s cost effective and empowers your fleet drivers to take responsibility,” said the Managing Director of Total Motion, Simon Hill.  “However, our research demonstrated that up to 80% of drivers act illegally, even surpassing 90mph on motorways, whether through ignorance or carelessness. 

“There are tools available which can help fleet managers protect their drivers, such as the use of telematics or speed limiters on your vehicles and we believe mandatory training for drivers should be an essential element of any fleet policy.”
