White remains the most popular colour of van in the UK, representing 57% of all registered Light Good Vehicles, a new analysis has shown.
The biggest increase in popularity has been for silver vans, up from a 3% market share at the end of 2003 to 11% currently. Until 2012, blue was the second most popular colour, but it has fallen from 14.5% in 2003 to 10%. Similarly, red has dropped from 11% in 2003 to just 7%.

“White vans have assumed their own place in modern British folklore, transporting the goods and services for businesses across the country,” said Jazz Gakhal of Direct Line for Business, which conducted the research. “In addition, the increase in the number of LGVs purchased in the last 12 months is a healthy sign that small businesses and tradesmen are investing in their enterprises and potentially expanding.”
The study confirms that there are more vans on the roads than ever before, with the number of registered LGVs increasing by over 700,000 (26%) since 2003 to 3.3 million at the end of last year.
